Our Story

The Reebok All-Australian Basketball League was founded by Nigel Purchase and Sedale Threatt Jr, two people who have dedicated years to developing young basketball players and helping them pursue opportunities beyond junior basketball. Throughout that journey, one belief remained constant. Basketball has given us incredible opportunities, lifelong relationships and experiences that have shaped who we are. We believe those who have benefited from the game have a responsibility to give something back.

Play it Forward!

That belief became the foundation of the AABL. We recognised an opportunity to create a professional-style league that complements Australia’s existing basketball landscape by bringing together emerging athletes, experienced coaches, former professional players, high-level officials and advanced performance technology in one environment. Our vision has always been simple: provide young athletes with the opportunity to compete under professional standards, have their performances measured, and gain greater visibility through a league built around competition, accountability and exposure. As the league has grown, so has that vision.

Today, the Reebok AABL is evolving into a national platform where athletes enter through a structured Combine, are selected through a Draft, compete in professionally presented competition and have every game supported by comprehensive statistics, rankings, game film and performance analysis.

Beyond the court, we continue to invest in tools that help athletes better understand the game and prepare for future opportunities. From player profiles and performance analytics to educational resources and exposure through league media, our goal is to provide access to information and opportunities that help athletes make informed decisions about their basketball future.

None of this replaces the outstanding work already being done by clubs, associations, representative programs and academies across Australia. Instead, the Reebok AABL exists to complement those pathways by providing an additional platform where performance is recorded, visibility is increased and athletes can challenge themselves in a professional-style league environment.

Every decision we make is guided by the same philosophy that inspired the league from the beginning. Basketball has given us so much. Now it’s our turn to play it forward.
